Louisville, Ky. -- Lynchburg College men's lacrosse attackman Evan Lombardo was one of 10 players honored on this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Division III Team of the Week, the USILA announced Tuesday evening.
Lombardo, a junior from Franklin Park, N.J., scored 12 goals in the Hornets' two-win weekend, also making two assists and picking up three ground balls in Lynchburg's 21-7 victories over Bridgewater and Elizabethtown. He started with a five-goal performance in the Hornets' Old Dominion Athletic Conference-opening win over the Eagles, and the next day he scored a career-high seven goals and dished out two assists in a win over the Blue Jays, the defending Landmark Conference champs.
His 12-goal total ranked second in Division III last week, and his 22 goals this season are tops in the ODAC.
Lombardo was an honorable mention All-American last season as a sophomore, and he was named a third-team preseason All-American this year by US Lacrosse.
Lynchburg is 2-4 on the season, all four defeats coming to top-15 programs, and is currently receiving votes in the USILA coaches poll. The Hornets travel to Owings Mills, Md., this weekend to play in the acclaimed Mustang Classic, where they will face No. 1 RIT and Nazareth in non-conference competition.
