Sparks, Md. -- Checking in at No. 17 on the Nike/US Lacrosse men's Division III preseason top 20 poll, University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse program continued to garner national attention ahead of the 2019 season.
The Hornets will test their mettle against seven other teams in the preseason top 20 during the 2019 campaign, including preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Wesleyan (Conn.).
Lynchburg is one of four Virginia schools included on the list and one of three ranked Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams.
The 2019 schedule includes, in addition to top-ranked Wesleyan, No. 2 Salisbury, No. 7 York (Pa.), No. 8 Washington and Lee, No. 9 Cabrini, No. 14 Roanoke, and No. 16 Stevenson. Lynchburg will also scrimmage No. 10 Christopher Newport in the preseason.
Lynchburg will defend its 2018 ODAC championship this season, the seventh in program history, and will pursue the team's 13th NCAA Division III tournament bid. The Hornets were picked No. 19 in the preseason Inside Lacrosse poll last month.
