Louisville, Ky. -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association ranked University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse team No. 20 in its preseason coaches poll, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
The USILA poll is the third preseason ballot to include Lynchburg.
Eight of the Hornets' scheduled opponents for 2019 also appeared on the poll, highlighted by preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Wesleyan (Conn.), with whom the Hornets will clash Saturday, March 16 at the Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Md.
Lynchburg opens the regular season Saturday, Feb. 9 at home against No. 2 Salisbury, and dates with No. 7 York (Pa.), No. 8 Cabrini, No. 12 Washington and Lee, No. 15 Roanoke, No. 17 Franklin & Marshall, and No. 18 Stevenson also populate the schedule.
The Hornets open the 2019 season with a pair of scrimmages Saturday, Feb. 2 in Charlottesville, Va. Lynchburg will take on Christopher Newport at 10 a.m. and Virginia at 3 p.m.
Lynchburg will defend its 2018 ODAC championship this season, the seventh in program history, and will pursue the team's 13th NCAA Division III tournament bid.
