HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams played the possession game early, but Lynchburg broke through as the match got going and scored in the 17th minute. Junior forward Robert Dunham (Ashburn, Va.) made an end-line drive into the box and passed back to Mackey, whose right foot bested the WildCats defense.
Lynchburg added on in the 24th minute when Mackey played a perfect ball into the box that Friedberg headed into the net from close range.
The Hornets added their final insurance in the 76th minute, another right-side cross from senior defender Austin Kues (High Point, N.C.) that made its way to a sliding Osman, who finished with the right foot at close range. Lynchburg racked up 16 shots in the second half.
Lynchburg will pack its bags for Lexington, Va., and Washington and Lee University for the ODAC championship weekend, where the Hornets will take on No. 3-seeded Bridgewater in the second semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 3. Top-seeded Washington and Lee and fourth-seeded Roanoke make up the other half of the bracket. Match times are yet to be determined.
