Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg senior Michael Lyons laid claim to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's men's soccer player of the week honor, the ODAC office announced Monday.
Lyons is the fourth Hornet to win the weekly award from the conference this season. He did so with a two-goal, one-assist week that saw Lynchburg extend its win streak to five matches. Lyons began the week Wednesday with a golden goal in the 93rd minute that pushed the Hornets past Guilford in the team's regular-season finale, and he followed Sunday by assisting the Hornets' first goal and scoring the second in a 2-0 ODAC tournament quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon.
The Wall, N.J., native has flourished in his first season with the program, totaling two goals and four assists as a staple in the midfield.
He and the No. 4-seeded Hornets will continue their quest for a third ODAC championship in the past four seasons Friday at top seed Hampden-Sydney at 4 p.m.
