Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College softball team split a doubleheader against ODAC opponent Shenandoah on Tuesday, falling 4-3 in the opener before rebounding for a 14-0 blowout, five-inning victory in the nightcap.
The Hornets dropped the opening game of the day as Shenandoah was able to come back with two runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
Senior second baseman Leslie Bourgeois (Bealeton, Va.) batted an impressive 4-for-7 during the two games, including five RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore pitcher Alex Cisar (Sykesville, Md.) spun a gem in the circle in the second game, as she threw five innings of shutout ball while striking out six batters and giving up only a single hit.
Freshman first-baseman Morgan Mitchell (Mineral, Va.) delivered a pinch-hit grand slam in the second game, her first collegiate home run, while sophomore outfielder Carol Oberhelman (Washington Township, N.J.) cranked a solo homer in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Shenandoah opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Maryann Hollen hit a two-run homer to center field.
Bourgeois was able to answer right back in the bottom of the inning, smacking a two-run double to right center to tie the game.
With the game tied an inning late, Oberhelman smashed a solo home run to right center to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead.
Hollen capped off her four-RBI day with a game-winning double to left field in the top of the seventh to seal the win for Shenandoah.
Lynchburg wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they scored a whopping 14 runs through the first three innings.
The Hornets combined for four extra base hits during the game, including the grand slam from Mitchell in a pinch hit situation during the bottom of the third.
Cisar improved her season record to 5-3 with the victory.
The Hornets will travel to Randolph College to face the Wildcats in a ODAC doubleheader matchup on Thursday, March 29. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
