Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's softball team completed a sweep of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's weekly awards Monday as junior second baseman Sarah Commons (Glen Allen, Va.) took player of the week honors.
Methodist couldn't get the Lynchburg leadoff hitter out Saturday as Commons reached base in seven of eight plate appearances in the season-opening doubleheader.
She went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks in the opener, scoring three runs and swiping a pair of bases as Lynchburg blew out the Monarchs, 11-0, in 5 innings.
Commons followed that with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish in the nightcap, scoring two more runs in a 9-1 5-inning Hornets victory.
It is the first ODAC player of the week award for Commons, who was an All-ODAC and all-region player as a sophomore in 2018.
