Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg senior Mackenzie Chitwood (Ferrum, Va.) earned her first-career Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball player of the week honor, the league office announced Monday evening.
The Hornets' first baseman hit a scalding .414 on the week and carried a .655 slugging percentage as Lynchburg won five of six ballgames against tough opponents. The Hornets split with Averett Thursday at home before hitting the road for the Salisbury Invitational, where they swept both Cortland and The College of New Jersey for a perfect weekend.
She scored a conference-best 12 runs and homered twice, both big flies coming Sunday in a doubleheader sweep of TCNJ.
Lynchburg won twice more on Monday at Salisbury to run its early-season record to 13-1, and Chitwood drove in six runs in the victories.
The Hornets received votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association top 25 poll.
