Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's softball program can boast the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's player of the week for the third week in a row as junior shortstop Kayla Hugate (Chesterfield, Va.) claimed this week's honor, the ODAC office announced Monday afternoon.
Hugate hit .409 (9-for-22) over Lynchburg's six games last week, five of them victories. She scored a team-high seven runs and drove in five more from the leadoff spot in the Hornet batting order.
She also had a double, two walks and two sacrifice flies.
Hugate currently leads Lynchburg's team and the ODAC in runs scored with 27 this season. She is hitting .333 on the year with five doubles and nine RBI. She has also stolen eight bases.
Lynchburg's softball team is ranked No. 15 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association top 25. The Hornets have a 20-4 record and a 3-1 mark in ODAC play.
