Satsuma, Ala. -- The American Softball Association announced Wednesday that University of Lynchburg 2019 alumna Mackenzie Chitwood (Ferrum, Va.) was selected in the seventh round of its annual draft.
Chitwood, the Hornets' first baseman who was the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Division III player of the year, will play for the ASBA's team sponsored by The Field, an indoor baseball and softball training facility in the Mobile, Alabama area. It is one of four teams in the league, which plays all its games at Pat Hicks Softball Field in Satsuma.

She led the Hornets with 63 hits on the season, equaling out to a .382 average, and was ODAC player of the week three times.
She slugged 1.000 with a .511 on-base percentage in 12 postseason games, winning the NCAA Virginia Beach Regional's Most Outstanding Player honor and a spot on the ODAC's all-tournament team. She hit seven home runs and drove in 19 runs in the postseason.
Lynchburg finished the season with a 37-15 record -- the second-best in program history -- and reached the NCAA Division III Super Regional round, where they fell to national runner-up Emory University in the best-of-three series.
The ASBA bills itself as the premier professional softball league in the United States and is entering its second season of existence. The 2019 season begins June 14 and runs through late July.
