Annandale, Va. -- Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, University of Lynchburg's softball team saw four players named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors' College Division All-State team, VaSID announced Tuesday.

Senior first baseman Mackenzie Chitwood (Ferrum, Va.) earned VaSID's player of the year honor along with a first-team designation, and senior third baseman Taylor Mabry (Bassett, Va.) also garnered a first-team nod.

Junior shortstop Kayla Hugate (Chesterfield, Va.) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Kayley Cox (Yorktown, Va.) earned second-team laurels.

Chitwood, the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association's Division III player of the year and a first-team All-American, rewrote the Lynchburg and Old Dominion Athletic Conference offensive record books in 2019. She slugged a school- and ODAC-record 21 home runs to go with 72 RBI, also a program and conference record. She led Division III in both categories, and she also topped the division's leaderboard in total bases with 140.

Chitwood hit .382 with a team-best 63 hits and was the NCAA Virginia Beach Regional's most outstanding player. She slugged 1.000 with a .511 on-base percentage in the postseason, clubbing seven homers and driving in 19 runs during the Hornets' playoff run.

She finished her career with a school and conference record 44 home runs.

Mabry, a three-time All-State pick, earned a third-team All-America nod from the NFCA after hitting .385 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI in 2019. She was second in the ODAC with 32 walks and ranked second on the team with 60 hits on the season, on her way to first-team all-region and all-conference honors.

Hugate, a second-team All-ODAC pick at shortstop, hit .359 and scored a team-high 50 runs as the Hornets' leadoff hitter. Her 60 hits ranked second on the team, and she tied for the team lead with 14 stolen bases and 12 doubles.

Cox posted a strong postseason effort to finish the year fifth in the ODAC in ERA at 2.19 while leading the Hornets with 121 ⅓ innings pitched and 82 strikeouts. Her six saves set a new Lynchburg and ODAC single-season record and put her tied for the DIvision III lead in the category. She was included on the NCAA Virginia Beach Regional's all-tournament team.

Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan won the All-State pitcher of the year award, while Christopher Newport's Kaitlyn Hasty was voted the Commonwealth's top rookie. Randolph-Macon mentor Kevin Proffitt earned coach of the year honors.

Lynchburg finished the season with a 37-15 record -- the second-best in program history -- and reached the NCAA Division III Super Regional round, where they fell to national runner-up Emory University in the best-of-three series. The Hornets were ranked 10th in the final NFCA coaches poll of the season.
