Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College outdoor track & field teams recorded six top-five finishes Wednesday evening across town at the Liberty University Twilight Qualifier, led by junior Dalton Hoppe (Buchanan, Va.), who won the men's hammer throw.
Hoppe hurled the hammer 47.93 meters, a new personal best for the Hornets thrower and the second-best mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this season.
Two other Hornet men chipped in top-five finishes as freshman Azavier Kirtley (Roanoke, Va.) raced to third with a 49.12-second 400-meter run, and sophomore Kevin Moran (Milford, N.J.) took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.26).
Freshman Hunter Frizzell (Fredericksburg, Va.) set a new ODAC season-best with a 4:00.93 in the 1,500-meter run that placed him 12th.
For the Hornet women, junior Rachel Murray (Chesapeake, Va.) also performed well in the throwing events, taking third in the javelin with a 37.61-meter heave.
The LC mid-distance runners added a pair of fifth-place finishes: junior Endasia Mitchell (Perry Hall, Md.) in the 400-meter dash (59.85) and graduate student Natalie Deacon (West Chester, Pa.) in the 800-meter run (2:16.5).
Lynchburg will conclude the regular season on Monday, May 14 with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., and the Swarthmore Twilight meet.
