Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg's men's and women's indoor track & field teams started off the semester on the right foot over the weekend at Virginia Military Institute's Keydet Invitational, putting up six program leaderboard performances in their first meet of 2019.
The Hornet women accounted for four of those all-time top 10 times. Freshman Jessica Cammarata (Ledgewood, N.J.) etched her name onto the leaderboard for the first time in her career, rattling off a 26.64-second 200-meter dash to finish 29th. That mark ranks fifth in Lynchburg's program history.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Johnson (Spotsylvania, Va.) continued her breakout campaign with a big run in the 1-mile. Johnson finished 13th in 5:20.62, another mark that ranks fifth all-time for the Hornets.
Sophomore Stephanie Burnett (Midlothian, Va.) covered the 3,000-meter in 10:52.45, which ranks sixth in the program annals, and senior Samantha Schreiber (Gladys, Va.) also checked into the No. 6 all-time spot in the 5,000-meter run in 18:51.8. That time put the All-ODAC runner sixth in the race.
On the men's side, junior Reid Sharkey (Fairfax, Va.) ran a 8:42.42 3,000, a mark that ranks fifth in the Hornets' record book. Sharkey finished sixth and was the top Division III runner in the field.
The Hornet men had several other noteworthy performances: sophomore Julian Douglas (Lynchburg, Va.) was the only D3 runner to reach the 60-meter dash finals, finishing eighth in 7.09 seconds. Douglas' run of 7.0 seconds in the semifinal heat checks in at No. 6 on the Lynchburg all-time leaderboard in the event.
The Lynchburg women got a nice day out of senior Endasia Mitchell (Perry Hall, Md.). She finished 15th in the 500-meter run (1:19.62) and just missed her personal best in the 400-meter dash, coming in 21st at 1:00.61.
Senior Madeline Van Aken (Blacksburg, Va.) also just missed her PR in the pole vault, clearing 10-10 to place 13th.
