Forest, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference named University of Lynchburg senior Sammi Woods as its women's indoor field athlete of the week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Fredericksburg native established a new personal best in the shot put, clearing 40'10.5" Saturday at Roanoke's Bast-Cregger Invitational to move into fourth on the program's all-time indoor leaderboard in the event. Her throw was the longest of the meet as well.
Woods also took sixth in the weight throw with a 41'0.25" heave, also a personal best.
The weekly award is the first of the career for Woods, who swept the ODAC's indoor and outdoor shot put championships last season.
She and the Hornets indoor track & field teams will be back in action after the holidays, Jan. 17-18 at Virginia Military Institute's Keydet Invitational.
