Chaney Forbush Posts 27 Points as LC Women Defeat VWC 70-55
Forbush sank 10-of-17 shots from the floor and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe en route to her game-high point total, just one shy of her career best. Charmaine Hairston delivered 16 points off the bench, while Caroline Naumann fell just short of a double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds. Sammi Goldsmith posted six points, nine rebounds and five assists and Sarah Coronel had seven points and seven rebounds. Lynchburg dominated on the backboards, enjoying a 52-30 rebounding edge.
Jayla Harris scored 25 for Virginia Wesleyan (8-14/6-8 ODAC), while Kelly Jones had 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Hornets led 16-9 after one period and held a 10-point edge midway through the second quarter. Virginia Wesleyan closed the half out on a 16-6 run to knot the score at 33 all at intermission.
Lynchburg came out of the gates quickly in the second half, using a 12-2 run to forge a 45-35 lead in the first five minutes of the third period. The Hornets led by seven early in the fourth period and put the game away with a 14-6 spurt.
The Hornets (19-4/12-2 ODAC) head across town Wednesday for another ODAC match-up at Randolph College at 7 p.m.
