HOW IT HAPPENED
Shephard scored on the game's opening possession, setting the tone for Lynchburg to hold a narrow lead for most of the first half.
Back-to-back 3s by sophomore guards Carolyn Noe (Fairfax, Va.) and Maggie Quarles (Roanoke, Va.) early in the second put the Hornets ahead by seven, 21-14, and Lynchburg carried that momentum into a 29-23 halftime lead.
Lynchburg worked the lead to double digits for the first time with 1:46 left in the third period on Davis' free throw, but the Wasps scored two of the final three baskets of the quarter to bring it to 43-35 with 10 minutes remaining.
Emory & Henry stormed back in the late going with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 49 with 2:56 to play, and the teams traded two ties and two lead changes in the final 3 minutes. Shephard's game-tying layup with 35 seconds on the clock sent the game to OT tied, 53-53.
The Wasps took the lead on their first possession of OT as McKinney sank a pair of free throws, but Lynchburg was able to make use of layups by Davis and Green to knot the score at 57 with 1:46 remaining. E&H's Peyton Williams and Lynchburg's Shephard each went 2-for-2 at the free throw line in the final minute to bring it to a 59-59 tie with 5 seconds to play.
After a Wasps' timeout, Logan feigned a drive and stepped back off the dribble, knocking down a long 2-pointer to give E&H the win.
Lynchburg will have the weekend off before returning to ODAC play Wednesday, Feb. 6 with a trip to Ferrum. The 5 p.m. tip kicks off a men's-women's doubleheader between the Hornets and Panthers.
