HOW IT HAPPENED
A lightning storm delayed the start of the match nearly two hours but didn't affect the Hornets' offense too much. Lynchburg had 10 first-half shots on goal but no luck getting the ball to the back of the net. The half ended scoreless.
The heat started to pick up in the second half after Mertens found the sweet spot and put the Hornets on the board with an assist from Jakubek in the 51st minute.
- Despite out-shooting their opponent 21-2, the Hornets weren't able to get any insurance and settled for a 1-0 win for the second-straight day.
Lynchburg will hit the road next weekend for Salem, Va. to participate in the Roanoke Invitational. The Hornets will first face No. 11 Carnegie Mellon Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3 pm. inside Roanoke's Kerr Stadium.
