Louisville, Ky. -- Senior forward Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, N.J.) finished one of the most decorated careers in the history of University of Lynchburg women's soccer nearly three months ago, but she keeps garnering the accolades.

Mertens earned forward of the year honors on D3soccer.com's annual All-America teams, the website announced Thursday. Senior midfielder Kennedy Jakubek (Leesburg, Va.) joined her teammate on the list as a second-team honoree.

The duo helped a senior-laden Lynchburg team reach the NCAA Division III tournament quarterfinal round in 2018 in the program's 12th-straight NCAA tournament berth. The Hornets won the program's 16th Old Dominion Athletic Conference title, finishing with a 20-3-3 record.

Mertens -- the Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the year, a second-team United Soccer Coaches All-American -- finished second among Division III scorers with 29 goals. She also dished out 10 assists, totaling 68 points, another national runner-up statistical effort. She was third in Division III with 10 game-winning goals.

She ended her career ranked in Lynchburg's top five in career goals (63) and points (147).

Jakubek also garnered all-region, All-State, and All-ODAC accolades in a fine senior campaign. The winger's 15 assists ranked sixth in the country and led the conference, and she ranked third on the team with nine goals.

Mertens' forward of the year honor marks the second time a Lynchburg player has earned the award, following Angela Bosco's 2014 effort. The Hornets won the Division III championship in that season.

Lynchburg's women have been represented on the D3soccer.com All-America teams each year since 2011.
