Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team ran its win streak to four matches Tuesday morning with an 8-1 blasting of Millikin at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Club.
The Hornets dominated in their first action of the Spring Tennis Fest, bolstered by hard-fought 8-6 doubles wins at No. 1 by junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) and also at No. 2 by freshman Alissa Anderson (Norfolk, Va.) and sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.).
No. 3 flight duo of senior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) and sophomore Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) won easily, 8-1, setting the tone for the rout of the Big Blue.
Senior Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) highlighted the singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, followed closely by Harris' no-problem 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 1. Junior Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.) also won in straight sets at No. 2, as did Hoang at No. 4 and Altenburg at No. 5.
Lynchburg's women's and men's tennis teams will both continue action at Spring Tennis Fest on Thursday, March 14 with 1 p.m. matches against Mount Union at Hilton Head High School.
