Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's tennis standout Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) earned her second Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the week award of the season, the conference announced Monday.
The junior helped the Hornets to a pair of wins at Spring Tennis Fest on Hilton Head Island, S.C., last week, winning all four of her matches in the victories.
Harris and the Hornets dispatched Millikin Tuesday, March 12 in their tournament opener. She and partner Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) doubled up to top the Big Blue's Morgan Bettner and Shelby Jones, 8-6, at the top doubles flight. Harris followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win to breeze by Bettner at No. 1 singles.
Two days later, her two victories played a bigger part in Lynchburg's 5-4 win over previously undefeated Mount Union.
At No. 1 doubles, she and Guill won handily, 8-1, over the Radiers' Gretchen Groves and MacKenzie Cavalier.
Harris had a tougher challenge at No. 1 singles. She bested Groves, 6-1, in the first set, only to drop the second, 1-6. She recovered to win the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5, to remain undefeated in 2019 and help the Hornets to do the same.
Harris is Lynchburg's all-time singles wins leader and was ranked 32nd on the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III women's rankings. She has been conference player of the week six times in her career.
Lynchburg's women are currently 5-0 and has upcoming dates with non-conference opponents Mary Baldwin and Averett this week.
