Women's tennis sweeps Mary Baldwin

Caroline Guill hitting a forehand

Staunton, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team ran its season-opening win streak to six Friday afternoon with an 8-0 victory at Mary Baldwin.

The Hornets rolled through doubles play as freshman Alissa Anderson (Norfolk, Va.) and sophomore Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) won, 8-0, at No. 2, and seniors Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) and Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) did the same at No. 3.

Lynchburg continued to dominate singles play as the women rolled through without dropping a game.

Guill at No. 2, Anderson at 3, sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.) at 4, sophomore Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) at 5, and Coon at 6 all won 6-0, 6-0.

The top flight went unfinished after bad weather moved in near the match's end.

The Hornets will look for win No. 7 in a row Saturday when Averett pays a visit to Lakeside Drive for a 2 p.m. first serve.

The marquee matchup will be at No. 1 singles between the Cougars' Heidi Sarkinnen, ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division III, and Lynchburg's 32nd-ranked junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.).
