Winchester, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's tennis team earned its second-straight sweep of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 win on the road at Shenandoah.
The visiting Hornets (12-2, 7-1 ODAC) got off to a hot start in doubles play as the No. 1 team of junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) and sophomore Caroline Guill (Louisa, Va.) earned an 8-1 win and senior Sarah Wyly (Leesburg, Va.) and sophomore Ellen Druebbisch (Jamestown, N.C.) replicated the result at No. 2.
Anderson and sophomore Emily Hoang (Sterling, Va.) got singles play off on the right foot with straight-set victories at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, and Wyly preserved the sweep with a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7 (6) win at the top singles flight.
Coon, Druebbisch and senior Lilli Altenburg (Lexington, Va.) polished off the shutout with wins on the bottom half of the singles lineup.
Altenburg moved into sole possession of third all-time in singles wins with her victory, the 42nd of her career, while Wyly jumped into a tie for seventh on the program's all-time wins list with the 31st of her career. Coon's singles win was her 30th, putting her into the program's all-time top 10 as well.
Lynchburg's women reached the 12-win plateau for the third time in the past four seasons.
The Hornets will be back in ODAC action Thursday, April 18 with a 3 p.m. match at Roanoke College.
