Fredericksburg, Va. -- Two University of Lynchburg women's tennis players landed spots on the Virginia Sports Information Directors' College Division All-State teams, VaSID announced Tuesday.
Junior Christina Harris (Falls Church, Va.) earned first-team singles honors for the third-straight season, and senior Reagan Coon (Churchville, Va.) joined the second team for the first time in her career.
Harris, who Lynchburg's first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference's player of the year award in women's tennis this past season, went 20-2 on the year and 15-1 in dual matches, all at the top singles flight. She broke Lynchburg's single-season and career victories records on the year and became the second Hornet ever to be ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings.
Coon was a second-team All-ODAC honoree who went a perfect 15-0 in dual play between flights No. 5 and 6. She finished her career seventh on the program's all-time singles wins list with 36.
The pair helped Lynchburg to its most successful women's tennis season in program history, going 18-3 and reaching the ODAC championship match for the first time.
Averett's Heidi Sarkkinen claimed All-State player of the year honors for the second-straight season, while Washington and Lee's Georgia Wright was named the top rookie. Mary Washington coach Art Canizares earned the All-State coach of the year award.
