Volleyball falls 3-0 to Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, Va.-- The University of Lynchburg volleyball team was swept away 3-0 Wednesday night after a tough Old Dominion Athletic Conference match up against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.

Juniors Lindsey Lang (Poquoson, Va.), Sydney Frink (Chester, Va.), Disa Haugsdahl (Warrenton, Va.), and senior Sydney Jamison (Williamsburg, Va.) all earned six kills at the net totalling 24 of Lynchburg's 33 kills for the night. Junior Erin Farina (Crozet, Va.) had a solid night collecting 12 assists, eight digs, and two kills.



Final: Virginia Wesleyan 3, Lynchburg 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16)

Records:  Lynchburg (9-13, 3-5 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (13-7, 7-2 ODAC)

  • Tied 14-14 in the middle of the first set, Virginia Wesleyan went on a four-point run, which gave the Marlins the lead. Lynchburg tried to battle back, but fell short and lost the set 25-19.

  • The Hornets jumped on an early lead in the second set getting ahead of the Marlins 9-4. Virginia Wesleyan closed the point gap and went for a ride to win the second set 25-22.

  • The Marlins grabbed an easy third set victory over the Hornets 25-16.



The Hornets will travel Saturday, Oct. 20 to Winchester, Va. for another weekend tri-match. First, the Hornets will face the Wasps of Emory & Henry at 2 p.m., followed by the host Shenandoah Hornets at 4 p.m.
