Greenwood, Ind. -- The College Sports Information Directors of America voted University of Lynchburg senior Lauren Stanford to the Academic All-District team in the NCAA Division III District 5, CoSIDA announced Thursday.
Stanford, an exercise physiology major, boasts a 3.9 cumulative GPA to go with her All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors on the court. She is one of eight players from District 5 to earn the Academic All-District distinction. The district covers most of the southeastern United States between Virginia, south to Florida, and west to Missouri.
The Mechanicsville native became Lynchburg's all-time leader in digs this season, finishing her career with 1,934, a number that ranks third all-time in the ODAC. The four-year Hornets libero also finished her career fifth on the program's all-time aces list with 147.
This season, Stanford set career-highs in digs (546) and digs-per-set (5.69), a category in which she ranked 26th in Division III.
She was a second-team All-ODAC selection and earned all-tournament team honors at the Route 42 Classic.
Off the court, Stanford was Lynchburg's female academic athlete of the year in 2018. She plans to attend physical therapy school at Virginia Commonwealth University after graduation.
The Academic All-District award makes Stanford eligible for CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams, voted on by CoSIDA members nationwide. The Division III teams will be announced in December.
Lynchburg has never had an Academic All-American in volleyball.
