New Orleans, La. -- Five Lynchburg College cross country runners were named to the USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic teams, the coaches' association announced this week.
It's the largest number Lynchburg has ever placed on the list, which debuted in 1995.
Four women's runners -- juniors Abby May (Lynchburg, Va.), Samantha Schreiber (Gladys, Va.), and Morgan Watson (Concord, Va.), and sophomore Michela Cholak (Ocean Township, N.J.) -- were included on the list, and one men's harrier, junior Tristan Lucy-Speidel (Fort Valley, Va.) made the grade.
To qualify for the All-Academic teams, runners must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional races. A total of 668 Division III athletes made the 2017 list.
Lynchburg's women enjoyed a resurgent season on the courses, finishing second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships and fourth at the Division III South-Southeast Regional. Schreiber, Cholak, and Watson all earned all-region accolades.
The men had a solid 2017 season as well, placing third in the ODAC and 24th in the region. Lucy-Speidel was also an all-region runner.
