Bethlehem, Pa. -- University of Lynchburg's men's and women's teams competed Saturday afternoon at one of the most prestigious races in the collegiate level of the sport, Lehigh's Paul Short Run.
The Hornets fared well on the muddy course, taking 19th place of 42 teams in the women's 6k Brown division and 23rd of 44 in the men's 8k Brown.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Johnson (Spotsylvania, Va.) raced to a 22:09 finish to lead the Hornet women, racing to a 14th-place finish and second on the Lynchburg all-time 6k leaderboard. Junior Michela Cholak (Ocean Township, N.J.) took 60th, finishing the course in 23:01.
On the men's side, senior Tristan Lucy-Speidel (Fort Valley, Va.) led the pack, finishing in 26:07 for 58th place. Freshman Max Sparks (Canton, Conn.) also finished in the top 100, coming in at 26:24.
Lynchburg's men were fifth among NCAA Division III schools in the standings, and the women placed sixth among D3 programs.
